Follow Friday # 26

Hi everyone! Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read!!
Here's this week's question:

Q:  Have you ever bought a book BECAUSE of a bad review?

A: No..I really haven't. If a book gains a lot of buzz because of a bad review and I want to check the book out..I most likely will get it from the library! Or I will look the book up on goodreads..but I most likely won't buy it. I try to buy books that I know I will love..so they will be a worthwhile buy :)

Well..what do you think of my response?? Have you ever bought a book because of a bad review?? Comment below and leave me some links and don't forget to follow!!

  1. I agree. It would be waste of money.

  2. I agree. I will usually check a book out from the library if there seems to be enough bad reviews. I would be so mad if I had read all the bad reviews and still paid for a book and then also didn't like it. Such a waste.

    Thanks for sharing!

  3. That is a really great idea to check it out or borrow it from someone! I have bought a book because of a bad review, but it sounded interesting to me and I ended up really liking it!

  4. Hi there :) just hopping through. If a book intrigues me I will probably give it a go just to form my own opinion. There have been quite a few books lately that I've personally been disappointed in despite them having mostly good reviews.

    Here is my choice...

  5. Definitely agreed, the most a negative review will do is inspire me to get it from a library to see for myself; but buying is reserved for ones I know I'll love or have read already and just need my own copy.

  7. Hm, I don't know. I agree for the most part, but in the end it depends on the type of review. I'd rather read a book with a negative rating than one with a positive rating where the reviewer says something like "I loved the lovetraingle, the dull characters, the flat worldbuilding.." *grin* Okay, bad example, but I guess you know what I mean. Tastes differ.

  8. I agree alot of negative reviews will get me interested in a book more than a lot of positive ones, though I mightn't buy it I would just borrow it.

  9. Negative reviews don't entice me to buy a book unless I already really wanted to read it.

  11. Old follower here =)

My Answer: No, Reviews matter a lot to me. Not unless the book became controversial that I would really feel the need to read that book.

  14. Good point! I never think of the library, I always buy my books but it would be much smarter to borrow rather than buy books your not sure of.

Thanks for stopping by my blog :)

  15. Eh, it's kind of the same thing to me though -- either way, the bad review made you decide to give the book a chance, and if you liked it, you might one day invest money in other books by the author. Doesn't quite help the author's sales though lol

Thanks for stopping by! Following back :)

  18. I must say that I am bad about buying books. Because every book that I do a review for, I own. I buy ALL of my books, regardless of if I love it or not.

Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier and following. Following back now. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Without a doubt, GR is the first place I go to when I hear about any book, good or bad.

  20. Hi,
Already a follower. I wouldn't intentionally by a book just because it had a bad review, but I would definitely read a book with bad reviews, if I was interested in the book. For me it depends on the author and the book.
