Summary:
‘She’s gone!’ Katrina’s eyes were big as saucers. I guess she didn’t really believe that I would disappear because the color had drained from her face as she stared wide-eyed and slack jawed at the center of the circle. The others opened their eyes in awe. I felt the strength of the circle fluctuate with the drop in energy, and the vibrancy of the colors dimmed as the group’s anxiety increased causing the contraction of their auras.

Then I noticed the woman . . . ‘Hello, Salena,’ she greeted me with a smile.

‘My name is Amalya Gaian. Welcome to the Fifth Dimension.’”

Salena Hawthorne is coming of age in more ways than one. And, the changes she is experiencing go way beyond simple hormonal overload. When her “family gift” comes on with a vengeance, Salena has to learn how to channel her developing psychic abilities to stop a pandemic from wiping out millions of lives.

Her newfound gifts of reading auras and inter-dimensional travel give Salena more trouble than she is ready to handle. With the weight of several worlds on her shoulders, Salena will need to call on her family, the Society of the Silver Moon, her Spirit Guide, and a few other unexpected allies to take on the supernatural enemies that threaten their very existence.

My Review:

Thank you JKS Communications for sending me a copy of this book to review!
I wasn't really sure what to expect with this book..especially since I haven't read anything like it before. Overall, I really enjoyed this book..it had some flaws but overall it was an interesting read.

What I really liked about this book was how different is from other books on the market. I really haven't read anything like this before and it was really refreshing to read a book like this one. I thought the writing was flawless. I also thought the main character Salena was really great. It was nice to see a strong willed character and I thought she really grew as a person throughout the novel.

What I didn't like about the book was the mythology and the gifts of reading auras. It was just a little too much for me and out there. It just wasn't my cup of tea. I think for other people who are interested in inter-dimensional travel and auras, this would be the book for you! For me, I just couldn't really get into it.

In the end, this wasn't the perfect book but I LOVED the writing style and I'm excited to see what Sallie Haws has to offer in the future.

Goodreads

My Review:
Overall, Royally Lost was a sweet and fun contemporary romance! Yes, it was cheesy and unrealistic-but it still was a fun read.

What I liked the most about this book was the plot. Yes-this would never happen in real life BUT it was still fun to imagine Nikolai and Becca wandering around Europe together. I thought they made a really adorable couple and it was interesting to see how they both grew throughout their journey together. Nikolai brought out the adventurous side of Becca-making her do things that she never imagined she would have done. Becca made Nikolai feel like a normal guy-one who doesn't have to listen to his authority figures and be a normal teenager.

I also really like Angie's writing style. I thought it was very unique and this book was fun to read. It definitely made me forget about schoolwork for a while and just focus on getting lost into Nikolai's and Becca's world. Something else that I really liked about this book was reading about the different places in Europe. I felt like I was on Becca's and Nikolai's journey and I loved reading about the different places they visited.

Overall, Royally Lost was a fun read! Definitely was a cute contemporary romance and yes-it was cheesy but sometimes we all need to read an unrealistic romance!

Wren Caswell is average. Ranked in the middle of her class at Sacred Heart, she’s not popular, but not a social misfit. Wren is the quiet, “good” girl who's always done what she's supposed to—only now in her junior year, this passive strategy is backfiring. She wants to change, but doesn’t know how.

Grayson Barrett was the king of St. Gabe’s. Star of the lacrosse team, top of his class, on a fast track to a brilliant future—until he was expelled for being a “term paper pimp.” Now Gray is in a downward spiral and needs to change, but doesn’t know how.

One fateful night their paths cross when Wren, working at her family’s Arthurian-themed catering hall, performs the Heimlich on Gray as he chokes on a cocktail weenie, saving his life literally and figuratively. What follows is the complicated, awkward, hilarious, and tender tale of two teens shedding their pasts, figuring out who they are—and falling in love.

My Review:
Ugh I really really wanted to like this book but it just wasn't working for me. While the overall premise of The Promise of Amazing was very original, this one just fell flat for me :(

First things first; the writing of this book was all over the place. While I did really like the alternating perspectives between Wren and Grayson, the writing was very confusing and hard to follow. Some of the side plots literally made no sense to the overall plot of the novel which was confusing and frustrating to read. I thought they weighed the story down and made things a lot more confusing for the reader. I think the author should have stuck with one clear storyline, instead of adding four different subplots that made this book a tangled mess. What also really bothered me was that some of the plots she didn't even end up resolving-which was annoying because I wanted to know what happened!

I also wasn't a fan of the instalove in this book at all. While I really thought Grayson and Wren were a cute couple, the instalove in this book just wasn't that great. I definitely think the fact that Wren saved Grayson's life definitely made their relationship flourish-but it still felt super rushed and didn't feel real. What also bothered me was some of the side characters-especially Luke. I really thought he was jerk and did absolutely nothing to the plot. One more thing that really really bothered me was the epilogue!! It fell so flat and I didn't think it resolved anything!

Overall, The Promise of Amazing really didn't work well for me. What started as an awesome contemporary romance-ended up falling flat and leaving me super confused.

My Review:
I wasn't really sure what to expect when I picked this book up, I heard mixed things but I decided to dive into it and go from there. I'm SO glad I gave this book a chance-I really enjoyed All That Glows. I thought the characters were interesting and unique, and the story was very different then what I have been reading lately.

I'm a huge sucker for YA books that combine magic with the real world-so I especially loved how Ryan Graudin was able to tie in both the British royalty and the Fae world into one. I thought the way she told the story was so unique-especially the part about the Fae being guardians for the royals..which definitely was interesting! I also really liked Ryan's writing style..I thought this book was well written and had the right amount of action, romance, and suspense!

What I really also loved about this book was the characters! I thought Emrys was a really strongwilled character, and wasn't afraid to fight for what she believed in. Richard, at first, was really annoying and immature. Luckily, as the book went on he grew up and definitely learned how to be a prince, and become a good king. I thought his relationship with Emrys was really sweet-and they balanced each other very well which I really liked.

Overall, I really enjoyed All That Glows! I recently learned that this series will actually be a sequel which is SO EXCITING! I can't wait to check it out the next installment. If you are looking for a paranormal romance with fae and royals, definitely give this book a shot.

My Review:
Note: Thanks again to Lakehouse Press Inc. for sending me this book to review!!
Ahhhhh..so so so sorry that we've disappeared for awhile! It's been a crazy month (and year!) but don't worry we are still here! Still reading and reviewing...it just takes us longer than normal :)

Overall, I thought The Minaldi Legacy was a really great read! I haven't read a book quite like it in a long time..and it definitely was a refreshing read!

What I really liked about this book was how unique the plot was. Lately I've been reading books that seem to have a similar plotline or is in the same genre. This book was SO unique and very different than the books I normally read..which was definitely really great! I also liked the seeing the progression of Eva throughout the novel. It's always interesting to see a character grow, and I think Eva really progressed so much throughout this book.

I also really liked how the book had two different parts (Of Blood and Bone, and Of Darkness and Demons). It was great to see how the author was able to keep the story going throughout these two parts.

In the end, I really enjoyed this book! It definitely was different than what I normally read, but I really enjoyed it! If you are looking for a paranormal romance that has suspense and action..definitely check this one out!

Goodreads

My Review:
A really great start to a genre that I wouldn't normally read...but I found myself LOVING this book. Melissa Landers is able to create both a realistic world with the introduction of aliens!

What I really liked about this book was the plot! It was very original and I liked how Melissa showed both Cara and Aelyx's viewpoints. I thought that gave us some really great insight in both of their characters and what they were going through. I also loved how funny this book was!! Their definitely were parts were I was laughing out loud at how Aelyx was adjusting to life on earth. I also really liked how we got to read portions of the blog that Cara was making about Aelyx's stay..it really made me feel like I was actually part of the story and in the world that Melissa was creating.

Another aspect of this book that I really liked was the two main characters; Cara and Aelyx! I thought they had such great chemistry and they really worked well together. I also really liked learning about Aelyx's world as well..it gave us some great insight into outerspace! I also thought this book was really realistic..their wasn't any instalove which was great and I thought it progressed really well.

Overall, I really enjoyed Alienated! I thought it was original, funny, and had a lot of action and romance! I can't wait to read the next book in the series! If you love Jennifer Armentrout then definitely check this book out..you won't regret it!

Goodreads

My Review:
What a really fun read! I have been in somewhat of a reading slump lately, and with me being in college it is definitely hard to find time to read a book-especially pleasure reading! That being said, with the semester almost over I definitely will try to post more reviews as soon as possible.

Anyways, back to Switched. Switched is one of those books that you would read when you really need a laugh and some good romantic cheesyness. I really liked Cassie Mae's writing style, she made me feel like I really could connect with the characters. I really felt like I could be friends with Kayla and Wesley, and I really thought that was a great thing to have in this story. You want to be rooting for the characters, not cheering against them.I definitely was team Kayla and Wesley during this book.

I also thought the characters developed a lot throughout the story which was great. All of the characters definitely grew throughout the story and became more mature.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book!! It was a really cute read and it was definitely what I need to get out of my reading slump.

Goodreads

My Review:
Overall, I really enjoyed Waterfell by Amalie Howard! It was a great new take on the genre of mermaids and science fiction (mixed with realism of course!).

At first, I thought this was going to be the typical mermaid story, but I was so mistaken once I continued reading this book! I really loved how the author was able to make a spin on the "classic mermaid tale" making the story unique and different. I thought the plot of this book really was fantastic..it was fast paced and definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. I also really liked how descriptive Amalie Howard was with her characters. I really could imagine the characters while I read the book and that definitely was a great aspect.

I thought that the characters developed really well throughout the novel. Nerissa was a really great character and I thought she was a very relatable character. She is going through problems that regular teenagers face (school, falling in love) but also has to deal with the fact that she is an exiled mermaid princess!

Overall, I really enjoyed Waterfell! It definitely was a refreshing take on a genre that I love, and I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Catching Liam by Sophia Bleu Review

Author: Sophia Bleu
Publisher: Self-Published
Release Date: July 8th, 2013
Format: E-Book ARC
Buy the book on Amazon

Summary:
Twenty-one year-old Jillian Nichols only has one rule when it comes to boys: catch and release. Boy-catching isn't just a game for Jillian and her friends, it's a lifestyle. After all, boys might be good for a dance or a drink and certainly a little under-cover action of the scandalous variety, but expect much else and you're bound for heart ache.

So when her best friends and fellow boy catchers start dropping like flies junior year, Jillian is determined to keep boys in her bedroom and out of her heart. Until she meets Liam McAvoy, the kind of guy that sticks around to make waffles and who can't—or perhaps won't—take a hint.

Study abroad student Liam doesn't want to be another notch on Jillian's bedpost. Actually he has much more interesting ideas for Jillian and her bedposts, but his student visa's set expiration date means he can't promise her forever. That doesn't mean he's going to walk away from the challenge of discovering why Jillian is hell-bent at keeping people at a distance.

Before long, neither is sure who is catching who—or if they're playing for keeps. Jillian knows one thing though: falling in love will not only break the only rule of boy-catching, it could also break her heart.

Goodreads

My Review:
I really didn't know what to expect when I started Catching Liam, but I found myself very surprised that I loved this book as much as I did! I've had an up and down relationship with New Adult novels and this one really was a great story!

Catching Liam started off as your typical New Adult novel: boy meets girl; one of them resists the others charms, and then the rest is history. Catching Liam though was very different from your average new adult novel. First, instead of the girl chasing the guy, Liam is chasing Jillian. It was really refreshing to have the guy go after the girl instead of the other way around. I haven't really read any books where the guy was in pursuit of the girl so this was a great change. Liam and Jillian really complemented each other..I really felt that they had a certain chemistry that worked well which I really liked!

Another thing that stood out about this book was how neither character had a "troubled past." In the past few New Adult novels, one character has something in there past that makes them hesitant about his/her relationships in the future. I was happy to see nothing like this hold the characters back.

Overall, Catching Liam was a fun New Adult read and I highly recommend it if you are looking to branch out into the New Adult genre!

Format: E-Book ARC

471 pages
Summary:
The battle between Light and Dark is about to begin.

Caroline Ellis sixteenth birthday sets into motion a series of events that have been fated for centuries. A descendant of Virginia Dare, the first child born in the lost colony of Roanoke, and unaware of her birthright as the heir to the throne of the Light Fae, it isn’t until she begins a tumultuous relationship with Devilyn Reilly that the truth is revealed.

Devilyn is the only one of the Fae who is both of the Light and of the Dark, and struggles to maintain that precarious balance to avoid succumbing to the power of the Dark within him. He is the only one who can save Caroline from those who would destroy her and destroy all hope for unity among the Fae. He promises Caroline that he will protect her at all costs, even when it means protecting her from himself.

Told from the alternating perspectives of Caroline and Devilyn, FAE draws on mysteries, myths and legends to create a world, and a romance, dangerously poised between Light and Dark.

Goodreads

My Review:
Having heard mixed reviews about Fae, I decided to still give it a try because it sounded so intriguing from the summary. I am so glad that I did!! Overall, I really enjoyed Fae; it had suspense, romance, and some AWESOME mythology!

I really loved how the authors were able to use the legend of the Roanoke colony into this book. I thought it was really interesting to see how that tied in with the story as a whole and I really liked it. I did think though, however, the writing was a little bit shaky and confusing at times. It was a little hard to follow with the alternating perspectives between Caroline and Devilyn, but I did really like how we were able to see things from both of their perspectives.

I really felt that this book was more of a "background" book in the series if that makes any sense. We got a lot of information about the characters and their lives, but the action didn't pick up till the end of the novel. I hope that the next book in the series has more action in it! I also really enjoyed the relationship between Caroline and Devilyn. You could really see how much he cared for her and I liked seeing the various scenes in which they interact. Caroline was also a really great female heroine...she definitely wasn't weak whatsoever and thought she was headstrong and not afraid to take risks.

Overall, Fae was a great headstart to an interesting series! I can't wait to see what happens next and how the story progresses..and hopefully their will be more action scenes!

Summary:
Gerald Faust knows exactly when he started feeling angry: the day his mother invited a reality television crew into his five-year-old life. Twelve years later, he’s still haunted by his rage-filled youth—which the entire world got to watch from every imaginable angle—and his anger issues have resulted in violent outbursts, zero friends, and clueless adults dumping him in the special education room at school.

Goodreads

My Review:

Not only was the writing in this book incredible and exciting, but I also thought that this was one of the most interesting plot lines I have seen in a long, long time.  I'm not exactly a fan of reality television, but I have seen a nanny show once or twice in my life.  However, the one thing I never thought of while watching those shows was what would happen to those kids when they grew up.  Who would want their worst, most embarrassing and difficult years to be aired on television for the world to see?  And especially when your episode is as widely known as Gerald Faust's was; there was no way he could ever grow up to be a normal kid after that.

I loved how, as the reader, I was able to see many different perspectives of Gerald: at almost every moment in the story, A.S. King showed us how strangers viewed Gerald, how his friends and family viewed him, and most especially how he viewed himself.  With the exception of a few characters, strangers and Gerald's classmates generally treated him either still as the little boy who pooped everywhere on television or as a complete dimwit who didn't even know the alphabet, which was entirely untrue.  His family and few friends mostly treated him as a normal person, but the way he treated himself was most interesting of all.  He always thought that he belonged in special education classes even though he was clearly too intelligent for them, and he was constantly trying to calm himself down, worried that he might say or do something rash; I, however, like many of the other readers, I would assume, believed in him.  Most of the time these three perspectives stayed separate, and for that reason I loved noticing the few moments when they collided.

There were two main relationships that caught my attention throughout this book: Gerald with his family, and Gerald with his girlfriend, Hannah.  Gerald's family was much more messed up than it outwardly appeared.  His older sister was legitimately insane (she constantly abused Gerald and their other sister as a child, plus was a sex addict since the age of twelve), his mother always backed up his sister no matter what, his second sister left his family the second she was old enough, and his father passively sat back and allowed his family to crumble to pieces.  Gerald also finds himself with a girlfriend named Hannah, who he originally refers to as the girl who works at register one.  She likes him for all of his faults, and he likes her back, even though she is far from perfect herself, definitely harboring a few secrets of her own.

This book was not particularly happy, but nor was it so sad that I was bawling my eyes out.  Instead, it was just raw and painfully real, which was one major reason why I enjoyed it so much.  King is a superb writer who had many, many great lines (such as one of my favorites: "What's crazy and what's sane when everything is possible and yet nothing ever happens?") and even better scenes.  I thought this was a great book, and would definitely recommend picking up a copy when it releases in October!

My Rating:
