My Review:

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer really disappointed me.I heard amazing things about it, and when i started it i had pretty high expectations for this book!I thought it would be one of the best read of the year, a story absolutely  amazing, with interesting characters and a wonderful love story. I thought i would have loved it.
But instead it left me only confused and annoyed.

The premise was  very interesting and intriguing. Mara, her best friend Rachel, her boyfriend Jude and his sister Claire go to an abandoned asylium in the middle of the night. Then Mara wakes up in a hospital, with no memory of what happened, and she has to face the fact that her friends are all dead because the building collapsed. She's the only who survives it.
Her parents decide to move away to start a new life in Florida. But Mara cannot start a new life when she doesn't know what happened in the asylium, and how she survived. She starts to have hallucinations and very strange events seem to follow her. Mara thinks she's crazy, until she found Noah, the classic bad boy with a golden heart, and she falls in love with him.

I wasn't really capturated by this story, I didn't found it "scary", or intriguing either, It's just the ordinary paranormal romance that has a lot of potential but the author didn't develope it at best.
And there was a lot of romance, too romance for me!I expected to found more about Mara's abilities, instead the author give us only a weak explanation at the end (which was pretty easy to guess) and I finished the book with more questions than answers!

Mara isn't a bad character, but she isn't the best protagonist of the year either. If she didn't become so obsessed with Noah, I think i would have liked it more!
She constantly thinks about him or about the fact she's crazy, and every time she sees, or does, something strange and scary, she turns right around and ignore the problem pretending it never happened. And I would love to know what her real name is.

I didn't like Noah either. Maybe because the whole book surrounds about his relationship with Mara.
I didn't found anything epic in their love, they are just typical and unoriginal YA couple, but i can see why so many people like them so much!

The end surprised me!I really didn't expected it, and for me it saved the whole story! It left me with a lot of questions and no answers, but i think i will find all the explanations i need in the next book of the series, The Evolution of Mara Dyer!

  2. I have Mara Dyer on my bookcase waiting to be read and after reading nothing but "Awesome Sauce" reviews for it I was really excited to see that you thought this book was just ok. Is that weird? I don't know. Thanks again for this review and have a great week!
