Name: The Selection
Author: Kiera Cass
Publisher: HarperTeen
Release Date: April 24th, 2012
I am so excited for this one!! I absolutely love the cover! The colors are gorgeous! The plot of The Selection also sounds interested. A little bit like Hunger Games but with a princess appeal that I totally love! I can't wait read this one!
For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in the palace and compete for the heart of the gorgeous Prince Maxon.
But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.
Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself- and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined-Goodreads

ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this story that explores society in the future. Although it shares similarities with YA books, such as Cinder and Matched, it isn't truly a dystopian novel. The people overall do not feel oppressed as we see it through America's eyes, but there is the believable dissatisfaction of one's life. However, it is believable since that is typical of any society in the world. Always wanting more than what one has. Even though we don't have a state-mandated caste system, it is still there within any society. Expectations are expected of certain societal levels today, just as seen in The Selection.
